Takashima Farm
Our Story
Takashima Farm
Kinji Takashima, the father of Eiji, founded the farm in 1994. The senior Takashima was originally a truck driver covering a large part of western part of Ibaraki Prefecture where vegetable and grain farming land is extensive. One day at the age of 47 he decided to completely change his career and get into the cattle raising business. He started with twenty calves. The senior Takashima had no experience in this new trade but managed using his best instinct and hard work to grow the farm operation. After 10 years in business, he saw his future in the Ikkan Keiei system for cattle raising. Using this system farmers take care of their cattle from birth through maturity to the slaughter. He introduced additional cows to his farm to start his new project. Over the next 10 years the senior Takashima expanded the farm with 20 cows and was raising 100 cattle comprised of bulls, heifers, bullocks and calves.
Kinji Takashima’s success was the fruit of his long hours of hard work and love of his cattle. But suddenly in 2014 he became ill and passed away. Eiji, his son who was working in Tokyo as a businessman, left his job, rushed back to the farm, and established himself as the owner and operator of the farm. With the help of friendly farmers, the town, the national agricultural organizations, and the provincial government, Eiji solidified the family business. He learned to trade his farm’s manure with neighboring farmers for rice straw and special vegetables. These allowed him to create a special nutritious feed for his cattle that includes high quality grass and rice oil. This feed keeps his cattle healthy and happy, and at the same time benefits the fields of his neighboring farmers.
Today his cattle win prizes at many competitions organized by surrounding prefecttures. His goal is to keep his operation 100% Ikkan Keiei, to raise his cattle and offer to the market the very best beef from Japan.
